Rickfors, Mikael Biography
Mikael replaced lead singer Allan Clarke in 1971 when he left the band to promote his solo albums. He was the singer of Swedish band Bamboo who had supported The Hollies during a tour of Scandinavia.
An all round musician, Mikael could play guitar, bass and piano and was also a prolific writer of songs but he was brought into The Hollies to front the band on vocals.
This produced a different sound for The Hollies for the albums "Romany" and the German only release on the Hansa label called "Out On The Road"
Perhaps the best song of this period was "The Baby" which reached number 26 in the charts.
Mikael has had a very successful solo career writing most of his own material and many of his songs have been covered by a variety of world class artists including of course, The Hollies with "Touch" (Romany LP), "Don't Leave the Child Alone", "They Don't Realise I'm Down" and "The Last Wind" (Out On THe Road LP).
Others recording his material include Percey Sledge, Cindy Lauper, Jim Capaldi, Richie Havens and Carlos Santana to name a few.
Mikaels last album was the CD "Lush LIFE" released on the Sonet label in 2004.
