Abba Biography

1970 saw the arrival of the pop tornado ABBA, taking the entire Europe with its rocking style of band display. The group was a unique combination of musical talents from Sweden with Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Anderson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog. The pop brand became the most successful in the world of pop-music and continues to hold the top position for ten long years from 1972 to 1982. They conquered the entire Europe and invaded Australia and America with their simple lyrical style of pop-music for crowds of ardent fans who swayed to the tunes of ABBA music.

ABBA stepped in for the first time with its first Ring Ring, which could not do much, but the second one Waterloo was able to win hearts in Europe with its new style pop rhythm. It could achieve the number one position in Europe and reached the top list in US also with an extraordinary and unbeaten sale record. Then, came the SOS album which also fared well in home and along with the super hit Mamma Mia, ABBA became a big name in the music circle of the world having their albums placed in world top 100.

The year 1976, found a compilation of their hits with one single Fernndo followed by the best seller album Arrival making a permanent place in the rock-music. It was further accelerated with the gem of their production in Dancing Queen, which became number one in US market. The graph of popularity continued to go upwards with the albums Knowing Me, Knowing You and The Name of the Game in 1977.

In 1978, the group made their appearance in the film ABBA- the Movie. There were a few more productions of records like Voulez-Vous in 1979 and Super Trouper in 1980 but by then the group started to disassociate due to certain personal reasons among its members. However, the fresh elements of the group created The Visitors in 1981 and the last single was Under Attack in 1982.

Meantime in 1980, the group traveled to Asia, Japan amidst a huge crowd of fan followings and created sensation with the pop music to satisfy the hearts of many pop music lovers. One major success was achieved by the group with the breakthrough in Latin America. It was made possible with the Spanish version of their albums and especially of Chiquitita during the same period.

ABBA albums remain a popular pop-music thing until recent days and they are played all over the world sometime or other. Their albums have been the best selling brands and sold million of records to gain the second best selling band in the history of pop and rock music. They sell nearly two to three millions of records per year to show the immense popularity they enjoy in the minds of the people until today. In 1992, long after their best days, a compilation album ABBA Gold: Greatest hits was released in the market for the music lovers. It is estimated that the album has sold more than 28 million copies until recently proving their inherent popularity among pop band lovers.
