“That’s how I feel when I go out,” rapper Young Jeezy said of his ode to the liquor-induced blackout, “Lose My Mind”. “‘Lost my mind and my cell phone in the same night.’ I been partying my whole life. When I leave [the club], I don’t wanna remember nothing. If you ain’t losing your mind, you ain’t partying right.” The single will eventually wind up on the CD “Thug Motivation 103″, whenever that is. “I ain’t gonna put it out there unless it’s rock, unless it’s hard, unless it’s right.” That could take until June, Jeezy say.

RIHANNA FEAT. YOUNG JEEZY - Hard

November 20th, 2009

With her new album “Rated R”, Barbadian chanteuse Rihanna steps out from under her “Umbrella” and completes her transformation into a Mad Max villainess. Chuck Harmony, co-producer of the album’s ballistic first single, “Russian Roulette”, says that no matter what song Rihanna releases now, people will automatically assume “it was about Chris Brown”, Ri’s slap-happy ex. That song’s co-writer, Ne-Yo, says he wouldn’t contribute to Brown-bashing because he doesn’t “think that needs to be a song that’s written”. So what about follow-up “Hard”? Totally about Chris Brown, don’t you think!?

KANYE WEST FEAT. YOUNG JEEZY - Amazing

April 24th, 2009

Kanye West continues his dark-wave-influenced sonic death march up the charts with “Amazing”. Drawing inspiration from ’80s synth-pop icons such as Gary Numan and Tears For Fears, West found a friend in the sturdy Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer, the affordable ($1,000 US dollars in 1980!) drum machine that kept time for innumerable contemporary new wave, pop and R&B acts. Rock producer Jon Brion turned on Kanye to the idea that box rhythms can be used to evoke emotion, which West manipulated to produce a distorted, electronic effect he refers to as “heartbreak”. Hence the title of his latest album, “808s & Heartbreak”.

But now Young Jeezy’s got her all “uh-unh” on “Never Ever” ’cause he can’t be true. But he’s Young Jeezy, so what was Ciara expectin’? Polow Da Don produced.
