Once Atlanta rapper T.I. is released from prison in March 2010 after serving a one-year sentence for federal weapons charges, he will then be subject to an audit of his finances, drug counseling, DNA testing and random searches of his property. Lest you think “The Jay-Z Of The South” is chastened, however, he drops “Hell Of A Life”, the new single in which T.I. pronounces that the thug life is worth it. Off T.I.’s UK-only “Paper Trail: Case Closed” digital EP.

T.I. FEAT. MARY J. BLIGE - Remember Me

June 5th, 2009

And things were going so well for him. But four hours before the BET Hip-Hop Awards in October 2007, the rapper born Clifford Harris was arrested in the parking lot of a Walgreens drug store in Atlanta and charged with two felonies after he attempted to purchase three unregistered machine guns from a federal agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Although he wrote the smash “Paper Trails” while under house arrest awaiting his trial, the case against him was pretty air tight: Harris reported to prison 26 May to serve his sentence on one year plus one day. Mary J. Blige testifies on T.I.’s quite literal plea to “Remember Me”.

T.I. - Whatever You Like

Atlanta rapper Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr.’s original stage name was “Tip”, a childhood nickname bestowed by his grandfather. Due to his Southern drawl, fans often mistook his name as “Chip”, so he began spelling it out “T.I.P.”. Upon signing with LaFace Records in 2001, he shortened his name to T.I. out of respect for label-mate Q-Tip. The self-crowned King Of The South returns with the laid-back “Whatever You Like”, produced by with Jim Jonsin, the man behind Lil’ Wayne’s mega-smash “Lollipop”. In fact, if you listen closely, you might notice it’s pretty much the same song.

T.I. FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Dead And Gone

April 3rd, 2009

The Atlanta US rapper recorded his sixth album while under house arrest for weapons possession charges, and is a week away from beginning a year-long prison sentence for a federal weapons conviction in 2007. And while his output to date has shown him a far better braggart than brooder, T.I.’s new “Paper Trail” LP reveals a sense of urgency and a new dimension of self-reflection not previously evident in the firearm-obsessed multiple felon, as on the lament “Dead And Gone”. Justin Timberlake co-produces with and sings the hook, and US DJ Benja Styles provides this club mix.

In 2007 rapper T.I. was convicted of two felonies for attempting to purchase guns outside a shopping center, for which he will begin serving a sentence of one year behind bars starting March 27. He also must complete 1000 hours of community service. In a completely unrelated career development comes “T.I.’s Road To Redemption”, a new MTV reality series in which the MC tries to steer vulnerable youth away from buying illegal firearms in public parking lots. This remix of T.I.’s mega-hit “Whatever You Like” features LA hanger-on and once-famous Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, who apparently shares the same lawyer.

T.I. AND JAY-Z FEAT. KANYE WEST & LIL’ WAYNE - Swagga Like Us

T.I., or Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., is an American rapper that has been busy working to release his sixth album, “Paper Trails”, before his 30th birthday! His original stage name, T.I.P., stems from his childhood nickname “Tip”, which he got from his grandfather. When he signed to Arista Records, he shortened his name to T.I. out of respect for his label-mate, Q-Tip. T.I. spent time working on his new studio album while under house arrest on pending gun charges. The album’s title, “Paper Trail”, comes from his decision to write down lyrics on paper for this album. It is the first time that T.I. wrote lyrics on paper since his debut album, “I’m Serious” (he normally freestyles!). With guest appearances by Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne, there’s not stopping this single!
