SEAN KINGSTON FEAT. SEAN PAUL - Follow Me

January 13th, 2010

Millions of people around the world are presumptuous and misguided enough to believe we hang on their every unformed thought (of 140 characters or fewer). But none quite so literally as roly-poly reggae rapper Sean Kingston. The 19-year-old’s sophomore collection of highly polished, Island-flavored, hip-hop-influenced R&B, “Tomorrow” proved Kingston could provide a whole album’s worth of pool-side entertainment even without a “Beautiful Girls”-sized single. If you follow him on Twitter, however, you get an even more intimate side of Kingston–such as what he named his newest pet (”Binky”) and Sean’s internal debate over what to order for lunch–in real time!

JAY SEAN FEAT. SEAN PAUL - Do You Remember

November 13th, 2009

One of the first major British Asians to crossover into the mainstream R&B market, Jay Sean’s (b. Kamaljit Singh Jhooti) sophomore disc, “My Own Way”, followed 2004’s Rishi Rich-helmed debut “Me Against Myself” by four years, a period during which Jay was surprisingly dropped by Virgin Records despite notching a UK No. 4 with the single “Stolen” and selling two million copies of his debut in India. That experience seems to have focused Sean on becoming what Touch Magazine calls “the UK’s answer to Ne-Yo“. “Do You Remember” previews the upcoming “All Or Nothing” LP.

Billed as one of the first major British Asians to crossover into the mainstream R&B market, Jay Sean’s (b. Kamaljit Singh Jhooti) sophomore disc, “My Own Way”, was a slick, polished, highly produced album in the style of Timbaland, Usher, and Craig David. It followed 2004’s Rishi Rich-helmed debut “Me Against Myself” by four years, a period during which Jay was surprisingly dropped by Virgin Records despite notching a UK No. 4 with the single “Stolen” and selling two million copies of the disc in India. That experience seems to have focused Sean on becoming what Touch Magazine calls “the UK’s answer to Ne-Yo“. “All Or Nothing” is Sean’s upcoming collection, which features “Do You Remember”.

SEAN PAUL - Press It Up

September 18th, 2009

Reggaeton ambassador Sean Paul has been as ubiquitous as oxygen for much of the ’00s, and he seems maniacally determined to maintain his pop dominance. Paul said in ‘07 that his next disc would focus on youth violence in Jamaica, but there’s little sign of that on the party-hearty “Imperial Blaze”, which is full of snazzy electro beats and KY-slick come-ons. One of hip-hop’s instantly recognizable cartoons, Paul has gotten a surprising amount of mileage out of a voice so monotone he makes Shaggy sound like Pavarotti. But he makes hits, and “Press It Up” is the new one, just like the last one.

SEAN PAUL - So Fine

June 5th, 2009

The m.o. behind the career of international dancehall superstar Sean Paul has been toasting to the good times (”Get Busy”, “We Be Burnin’”, et. al.), but then he had an epiphany. Paul, Shaggy, and others recently announced a benefit concert to raise funds for new equipment for the Bustamante Hospital for Children. And Sean told MTV that from now on he wants to focus less on party songs, more on the rampant youth violence in Jamaica, which might explain the two-year delay of his new album. Old habits are hard to break, however, hence “So Fine”.

SEAN PAUL - Ever Blazin’

December 19th, 2008

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, dancehall superstar Sean Paul spent his early years “comfortably” in Upper Saint Andrew Parish, a few miles north of his birthplace, with his multi-ethnic parents (Portuguese, Chinese, and Carib blood among them). Both his mother, a renowned painter, and father were talented athletes, and Paul played for the national water-polo team until 21 and studied classical flute before he gave up both to pursue his first love, dancehall pop, especially crafting electronic beats. Paul hasn’t released any music since ’05’s “The Trinity”, but in order to whet appetites for his “The Next Thing” in ‘09 comes a reissue of his previous album’s hit, “Ever Blazin’”.

September 5th, 2008

kardinal-offishall-0013
Kardinal Offishall has had his huge hit, “Dangerous”, remixed. Appearing on the new version are Akon and Sean Paul. Talking about his new album, “Not 4 Sale”, out 9 September, Kardinal Offishall said: “I can only make my music if there is a vibe and a certain energy. So this was an amazing time to record the album because emotionally, I was feeling it. We recorded for a year and in that time I just did everything. I had the most fun recording. This was the best time of my life.” Go to www.kardinaloffishall.com for more.
