RICK ROSS FEAT. KANYE WEST, T-PAIN & LIL’ WAYNE - Maybach Music 2

May 29th, 2009

Calling his third effort “Deeper Than Rap” is a risky move for Rick Ross, as it’s his first effort since being exposed as a former corrections officer–tantamount to treason in the gangsta game. But the rapper’s ability to steamroll over the listener’s preconceived notions is remarkable, and anyone willing to ignore Ross’ iffy street cred and narrow subject matter (money, women, victory, repeat) will find it a weekend-gangsta album done right. Boss of them all is “Maybach Music 2″, with T-Pain, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne all in top form.

THE-DREAM FEAT. FABOLOUS, JUELZ SANTANA, RICK ROSS & LUDACRIS - Rockin’ That Thang

March 27th, 2009

The-Dream calls his upcoming ‘09 collection, “Love Vs. Money”, “like the first album”–last year’s “Love Hate” blockbuster–”on crack.” Indeed, “Rockin’ That Thang” is a cheap, addictive, dangerous high. This loquacious rap remix is a summit of rhyming talent, the mic passing from Fabolous to Juelz Santana to Rick Ross and finally Ludacris. East Coast reprazentin’!

RICK ROSS FEAT. JOHN LEGEND - Magnificent

March 27th, 2009

In possibly the greatest pantsing of a rap star since Flava Flav was revealed as a Rhodes scholar, Rick Ross–who takes his stage name from famous 1980s California drug trafficker “Freeway” Ricky Ross–not only was revealed by TheSmokingGun.com as never having been deeply involved in the narcotics underworld, essentially his entire persona and rapping topic, but he was also once employed as a prison corrections officer! Luckily Rick’s felon pose may soon be restored to legitimacy, as he recently assaulted YouTube entertainer DJ Vlad for asking about his time as The Man, an attack filmed by bystanders and posted on the Web. John Legend aids and abets “Magnificent”.

KEVIN RUDOLF FEAT. RICK ROSS - Welcome To The World

February 27th, 2009

Sold as a rap/rock/pop triple-threat with massive crossover potential, Kevin Rudolf is hip-pop-rock performer, writer, and producer keenly aware of how much urban flavor the pop genre had absorbed since the millennium turned. Kevin loves guitar crunch, and there are plenty of fist-raising rock anthems on his debut album, “In The City”. Rick Ross gives “Welcome To The World” hip-hop cred, and with everyone from Kanye to Lil’ Wayne looking to literally rock the house these days, Rudolf’s way ahead of them.

Fours years, and as many record company delays, later, Nina Sky returns with their first album as young women, “The Musical”, with career chaperones Rick Ross, Sean Paul, Ivy Queen and Daytona. “Curtain Call” is the first single.

Jennifer Hudson became an overnight household name after she parlayed getting the boot on season three of “American Idol” into landing the Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winning role of Effie White in the screen adaptation of “Dreamgirls”. Hard as it is to believe, Jennifer is just getting around to releasing her debut solo album, now over two-years in the making. “Spotlight” was leaked and then subsequently rush-released as her self-titled album’s first single.
