MCFLY - Falling In Love

May 8th, 2009

Tom Fletcher was in the UK boyband Busted “for approximately 24 hours” before Island Records decided to trim it from a quarter to a trio. Fletcher lost his spot to Charlie Simpson (who later went on to co-found post-hardcore band Fightstar) but was retained as part of the songwriting team. Asked by the label to film the auditions for new boyband V, Fletcher met guitarist Danny Jones, who turned up mistaking the tryout for an instrumental band. They liked each other’s style and started writing together as McFly. “Falling In Love” is the fourth song pulled from McFly’s fourth hit album, “Radio: Active”.

MCFLY - Stay With Me

Britain’s boisterous answer to American Blink 182-inspired teen emo-pop, McFly’s penchant for playing covers is no secret to their fans. The spunky quartet’s played songs live by literally every band you’ve ever heard of, going back to ’50s R&B crooner Bobby Day (”Rockin’ Robin”). The Rod Stewart/Ronnie Wood gem “Stay With Me”, possibly The Faces most popular paean to misogyny, is the double A-side to “Do Ya” (unfortunately not the ELO song), the 2008 Children In Need charity single. So let’s…get drunk and do it for charity!

MCFLY - Do Ya

Not the ELO song, which would have made sense, actually, considering McFly’s penchant for covers. The B-sides to the “Do Ya” CD single, in fact, include a Rod Stewart song and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl”. Instead, this track’s another chart-headed original from Britain’s boisterous answer to American Blink 182-inspired emo-pop, the third single from their aptly titled fourth album, “Radio:Active”. MCFLY - Lies

This British electro-punk rock band has achived amazing success in only three and a half years. Since their debut album, “Room On The Third Floor” from 2004, they have had seven No. 1 singles. Their debut single, “Five Colours In Her Hair”, was their first No. 1 hit. Frontman and founder Tom Fletcher recently made UK history when McFly’s last single made it to No. 1 in the UK, making it his tenth No. 1 UK chart hit before the age of 21! This means he has written more No. 1 hits than U2, Queen and Robbie Williams! This includes three singles he co-wrote for Busted. “Lies” is on the album “Radio: Active”, and the video is featured on their website: www.mcfly.com.
