AKON FEAT. KERI HILSON - Oh Africa

February 10th, 2010

What do we really know about Senegalese-American international hitmaker Akon? Surprisingly little that can be verified, except that pretty much his entire persona is fabricated. And that whatever he touches turns to Gold records. At least his heart is in the right place for “Oh Africa”, his charity single to benefit underprivileged African youth and his third collab with Keri Hilson. The song was released as a digital download during the 52nd Grammy Awards, along with the video. The Soweto Gospel Choir and young singers from many countries are also featured on the single, as are the good people who bottle your Pepsi Cola. Don’t worry, though, Akon’s next slated single gets back to what he does best, “Takin’ It Off”.

R. KELLY FEAT. KERI HILSON - Number One

October 9th, 2009

Being R. Kelly means not only never needing to say “I’m sorry” for multiple child-porn incidents; it means that you title your first single after going to trial for a video sex tape on which you urinate on a 14-year-old girl “Number One”. But it’s that unfettered ego that we love about our Robert: He can make us believe we can fly. He can also make us want to get peed on. Kelly reminds us from the first stream that it’s “sex that we’re havin’” on the freaky grinder “Number One”; by the time you get halfway into his joint, you realize its not only Keri Hilson that R. Kelly’s banging, but all the haters out there.

KERI HILSON FEAT. AKON - Change Me

September 25th, 2009

Two years ago Keri Hilson was the sweet-voiced singer on “The Way I Are”, the bizarro song that turned hip-hop producer Timbaland into a pop star in his own right–but she was almost lost in the mix. For her debut album, “In A Perfect World…”, Hilson is again clobbered on all sides by ornate production–largely by Timbaland and Polow Da Don–which favors texture and rhythm over melody or feeling. But Hilson’s inventive, approaching the beat from odd angles and picking unexpected moments to rhyme her sexy mixed messages. She also does much of her own vocal arranging. Which is good, because she has to prop up a comatose Akon on “Change Me”.

KERI HILSON FEAT. KANYE WEST AND NE-YO - Knock You Down

June 5th, 2009

“In A Perfect World…” might be Keri Hilson’s debut album, but it’s hardly the work of a record-biz newbie. As part of The Clutch, an Atlanta-based songwriting squad, Hilson spent the last few years penning hits for such A-list acts as Britney Spears and Mary J. Blige, and in 2007 she dominated Top-40 radio as the female voice on Timbaland’s smash “The Way I Are”. Hilson’s not shy about using her connections, either: “Knock You Down”, her disc’s fourth single, sports guest shots from Kanye West and Ne-Yo.

KERI HILSON FEAT. TIMBALAND - Return The Favor

April 17th, 2009

Even if you don’t know The Clutch, you do. The American songwriting collective is responsible for a series of monster hits for Omarion, Ciara and Timbaland, not to mention tracks for everyone from Britney Spears to Usher to Whitney Houston. After singing background on many of the songs she’s written, Clutch playa Keri Hilson takes center stage for “Return The Favor”, which Timba does by guesting.

KERI HILSON - Slow Dance

March 20th, 2009

“It’s my way of saying nothing in the world is perfect and no person in it is, either”, explains hit-making production team The Clutch’s Keri Hilson of her solo debut, “In A Perfect World…”. “None of us is exempt from certain hardships and heartbreaks.” Indeed, and in a perfect world, major Interscope Records would have released the collection back in 2007, as it was scheduled. But the economy has crippled even superstar songwriters and their labels, so Hilson is gearing up for a late March release. If not, “Slow Dance” joins four previous tracks released to radio, so we’re almost halfway through it anyway.

KERI HILSON feat. LIL’ WAYNE - Turnin Me On

March 6th, 2009

keri-hilson-001
Keri Hilson was plotting her career in music at age 12; by her mid-teens she was working as a songwriter and background vocalist under producer Anthony Dent (Destiny’s Child, Diddy). Out of that relationship came two failed girl groups (Pretty Toni and D’Sign) and, more importantly, a host of connections. Over the next few years, Keri’s songwriting was ubiquitous, Mary J. Blige’s “Take Me as I Am”, Omarion’s “Ice Box” and Ciara’s “Like A Boy” a few of her biggest hits. Now Hilson gets her moment in the spotlight with “Turnin Me On”.

Jason Harrow, also known as Kardinal Offishall, is often credited as being Canada’s “Hip-Hop ambassador”. Harrow started rapping at the age of eight and was winning competitions and performing for Nelson Mandela just four years later! The Canadian rapper teamed up with American R&B singer-songwriter Keri Hilson for this version of “Numba 1″. There is another version of the single with Rihanna. The single can be found on his fourth studio album “Not 4 Sale”. The album was produced by Akon and was released under Akon’s label Kon Live.
