RIHANNA FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Hole In My Head

January 5th, 2010

rihanna-006
The cover of Rihanna’s new “Rated R” album features a severe black-and-white head shot with Ri’s hand clapped over her right eye, the left ringed by a black eye of liner. It’s impossible to look at the image without recalling the photos of the former teen-popper’s bruised face in the aftermath of her beating in February by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. And Rihanna doesn’t want you to. The Barbadian beauty’s singing has never been in doubt. The question has always been personality: Is there a flesh-and-blood woman lurking beneath the big voice and model looks? On “Hole In My Head” - the Nokia Comes With Music version’s bonus track - Rihanna answers the question with emphatic goth-R&B and a grim theme: love gone horribly wrong.

TIMBALAND FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Carry Out

December 18th, 2009

timbaland-002
On “Shock Value 2,” mega-producer Timbaland finally offers a rebuttal to rap’s recent lyrical alcoholism. “Ease Off The Liquor” might be the aughts’ first instance of a pop artist telling a drunken paramour to try a glass of water instead. For anyone who scratched their soul patch over Timbaland’s outing with former Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, the cameo from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger on “Tomorrow In The Bottle” will sound uncomfortably oddly familiar. Timbaland fares better when his past clients lend a hand: Justin Timberlake has a goofy good time on “Carry Out”, which nevertheless hangs itself on the very same sex-as-fast-food jokes you could think up yourself in the next five minutes.

T.I. FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Dead And Gone

April 3rd, 2009

The Atlanta US rapper recorded his sixth album while under house arrest for weapons possession charges, and is a week away from beginning a year-long prison sentence for a federal weapons conviction in 2007. And while his output to date has shown him a far better braggart than brooder, T.I.’s new “Paper Trail” LP reveals a sense of urgency and a new dimension of self-reflection not previously evident in the firearm-obsessed multiple felon, as on the lament “Dead And Gone”. Justin Timberlake co-produces with and sings the hook, and US DJ Benja Styles provides this club mix.

March 6th, 2009

For her third album, “Fantasy Ride”, Ciara wanted to get some of that Platinum-flavored Justin juice. Justin Timberlake’s demo/leak/teaser “Magic” was already getting airplay and even charting in some countries, so he Justified bringing it into the studio. Ciara dropped crumbs from her Goodies on the track, and suddenly the song was a duet titled “Love Sex Magic”. “Talk sexy to me like that!”

T-PAIN FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Can’t Believe It

November 21st, 2008

As much known for his wacky appearance — think Flava Flav meets Rick James — as featuring as a guest artist on roughly 38% of hip-hop singles released in ‘07/’08, T-Pain finally gets his big shot with the “Thr33 Ringz” album. The concept “came from people telling me that I’m the ringleader of the game” this time, Pain explains. “I started putting it together with the idea that the circus is just like the music industry.” T-Pain enlists Justin Timberlake to play his usual role on this remix of “Can’t Believe It”.
