TREY SONGZ FEAT. FABOLOUS - Say Aah

November 6th, 2009

Three albums in and Trey Songz still sounds like he was raised in a bizzaro land where all music is based on the teachings of R. Kelly. From the cool delivery to his unashamed lyrics–first line on the album: “This one here’s a panty dropper”–Trey’z a time-warp version of Kelly, one just entering his mid-20s and with a more excusable, though just as excessive, horniness. To call “Ready” anything less (like “lusty”) wouldn’t be fair to the lines about pillow-biting on “Neighbors Know My Name”–because “she’s a screamer”–or all the other moments that get a bit too graphic for an album that doesn’t carry a Parental Advisory sticker. If you can’t get down with an record featuring the key track “I Invented Sex”, then you just don’t understand the difference between ridiculous and delicious. “Say Aah” is as entertaining and frivolous as a one-night stand should be.

FABOLOUS FEAT. DRAKE - Throw It In The Bag

A concept album from a punch-line rapper is a dodgy proposition, so it’s fortunate that “Loso’s Way” strays off-topic even more than Jay-Z’s “American Gangster”. Named after Fabolous’ own feature film–available in a limited-edition version of the album–”Loso’s Way” is inspired by the Al Pacino vehicle “Carlito’s Way”. But past a track named after the character “Pachanga” and a couple other references, this is actually a standard-issue Fabolous album, with big singles and plenty of laugh-out-loud lyrics. Like he say, jus’ “Throw It In The Bag”.

FABOLOUS FEAT. JEREMIH - It’s My Time

Brooklyn US rapper Fabolous (b. John Jackson) was one of the first East Coast MCs to embrace the bling mentality of the South as well as the gangsta swagga of the West Coast, all the while incorporating a subtle undercurrent of pop into his music. Streetwise and hardened yet graced with poster-boy looks, Fabolous was among a new breed of New York City rappers, later to include 50 Cent, who were able to crossover in multiple markets without losing street cred. His fifth studio album, “Loso’s Way”, is based on the Brian De Palma gangster film “Carlito’s Way”. “It’s My Time” is the first taste.

His new song, “She Got Her Own” (sometimes called “Miss Independent Part 2″) features Jamie Foxx and Fabolous. “She Got Her Own” is reportedly also part of Jamie Foxx’s new CD called “Intuition” and gets the remix treatment by Benja Styles.

THE-DREAM FEAT. FABOLOUS, JUELZ SANTANA, RICK ROSS & LUDACRIS - Rockin’ That Thang

March 27th, 2009

The-Dream calls his upcoming ‘09 collection, “Love Vs. Money”, “like the first album”–last year’s “Love Hate” blockbuster–”on crack.” Indeed, “Rockin’ That Thang” is a cheap, addictive, dangerous high. This loquacious rap remix is a summit of rhyming talent, the mic passing from Fabolous to Juelz Santana to Rick Ross and finally Ludacris. East Coast reprazentin’!

Sartorial paragon Shaffer Chimere Smith goes by Ne-Yo when he’s behind the mic; the object of this tracks’ desire by “Miss Independent” because, among other attractive attributes, she has a job and credit line, and has never stolen anything but Ne-Yo’s heart. “She Got Her Own” is an official remix of that previous single, featuring Fabolous and Jamie Foxx, and will also be available on the Foxx’s new album, “Intuition”.

THE-DREAM FEAT. FABOLOUS - I Luv Your Girl

August 8th, 2008

The-Dream hooks up with rapper Fabolous for the remix of his hit track, “I Luv Your Girl”. The original version appears on The-Dream’s debut album, “Love Hate”. The artist who wrote “Umbrella” for Rihanna explained that his album has a distinct feel, saying: “It’s more of what I’m giving other people. It’s like the ’80s — it’s musical. I’m doing the ‘Umbrella’ routine to this whole album. All of my records are singles. The album is really visual as well. It appeals to all your senses, similar to ‘Thriller’.” Find more at www.myspace.com/thedreamteam.
