EROS RAMAZZOTTI - Il Cammino

On “Ali E Radici”, his first all-new album in four years, Italian singer/songwriter Eros Ramazzotti again worked closely with longtime collaborator Claudio Guidetti, who co-produced and co-wrote most of the songs. The result is in many ways a typical Ramazzotti album: a vocal showcase. But although the music is secondary, it’s nonetheless amazing - symphonic pop/rock whose string arrangements are the work of Paul Buckmaster, whose illustrious career spans Elton John, Harry Nilsson, and Carly Simon. Moreover, it’s a dynamic album that ranges from the opening kick-start of “Appunti E Note” to the tailor-made hit single “Parla Con Me” to the heart-touching ballad “Il Cammino”.

As a Latin-pop singer, Eros Ramazzotti became especially popular in Germany, Mexico and Argentina (as well as his native Italy) during the ’90s and has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Born in the Rome suburb of Cinecitta during the mid-’60s, Eros moved to Milan to make a career of music as a teenager. Ramazzotti wasn’t having much luck until he met Renato Brioschi, who became the young artist’s mentor and helped Eros find success in 1984 when “Terra Promessa” took the newcomer category at the Senremo Fest. Twenty-five years later, “Controvento” is Eros Ramazzotti’s latest hit, off his 10th album, “Ali E Radici”.

When Italian superstar Eros Ramazzotti moved to Milan to develop his musical chops in the early 1980s, “I remember being so shy that I would simply get terrified of going to restaurants all by myself,” he recalls. “So I went without eating throughout my time in Milan.” Although the eccentric performer is famous for his social dysfunction, he’s more famous for the songs that have sold over 20 million albums, especially in Germany, Mexico and Argentina, as well as Italy. “Linda E Il Mare” is off his latest chart-topper, “Ali E Radici”.

Italian superstar Eros Ramazzotti admits that his personal life includes only a few good friends, due to a suspicious personality that developed while he grew up poor. “There were no books in my parents’ home, no suggestions made how to even have a decent conversation,” he laments. “The only source of information was my father’s inappropriate photos of women.” But Dad redeemed himself by recognizing Eros’ passion for music and finding a way to purchase his son a guitar. “Dimelo A Mi (Parla Con Me)” is from the new collection “Ali E Radici”.

Releasing his music in both Italian and Spanish, Eros Ramazzotti first gained international success in 1993 when his “Tutte Storie” managed to occupy the Top 5 in every country where the album was released. BMG knew a good thing when they counted it so they signed him, a fairly good investment now that the popular Roman entertainer’s sold in excess of 40 million albums. His last release was 2007’s “e²”, a best-of that included a second disc of rerecorded hits featuring contributions from Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Steve Vai and others. “Parla Con Me” teases Eros’ upcoming collection, “Ali E Radici”.
