November 26th, 2009

live-01

Fans of multi-platinum power rockers CREED are in for a special treat this Christmas as CREED LIVE, the first-ever live DVD from one of the most successful bands of the past decade, hits stores and all major online retailers in the UK on Monday December 7th (US release date is Tuesday December 8th).

Click here for the official UK online press announcement - http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/creed/creedlive.htm

CREED LIVE, captured during the band’s long-awaited “Full Circle” reunion tour, includes the Creed favorites - “Higher,” “My Sacrifice,” “With Arms Wide Open” and “Bullets”, plus new songs such as “Overcome” and “A Thousand Faces” from Full Circle, the band’s first studio effort in seven years.

Full Circle recently debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Charts second only to Michael Jackson’s This Is It. The DVD includes a revealing documentary that follows Creed throughout “Full Circle” tour with exclusive band interviews and behind-the-scenes, and a photo gallery with over 100 photos from the 2009 summer tour. Directed by Daniel E. Catullo III (Rush, Nickelback, Alter Bridge, Smashing Pumpkins), the 239-camera, state-of-the-art high definition shoot was filmed in front of 18,000 screaming fans in Houston at The Woodlands - Cynthia Woods Pavilion on September 25, 2009.

“Making this DVD was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us,” says CREED lead singer Scott Stapp. “I have never seen anything like it, nor have our fans. I’m excited to finally give CREED fans something they will never forget.”

In addition to the 239 high definition cameras, the “Big Freeze” technology required over 200 Nikon still cameras to create an entirely new concert viewing experience in scenes which will be made available in the “Deluxe Edition” of “Creed Live” released in early 2010. “Being able to have access to so many different forms of technology and equipment for this shoot not only allowed me to capture Creed in a way never done before, it gives the viewers angles they would never otherwise be able to  see,” says director Dan Catullo.

ORBA SQUARA - The Trouble With Flying

November 24th, 2009

orba-squara-001

Orba Squara’s second release The Trouble With Flying is out now; this is the follow up to 2007’s successful debut sunshyness. Mitch Davis, who performs as Orba Squara, finds inspiration for his natural free-flowing melodies from simple things in life, like his collection of acoustic guitars, toy pianos, bells, melodicas and other instruments picked up at stores (including a sitar bought on a trip to Japan) and flea markets, and given to him by friends.
While the debut was a conscious effort, according to Mitch, the songwriting and recording of Flying “just happened” almost immediately after the release of sunshyness. And while sunshyness was purposefully minimal, a sound described by Pitchfork as “indie-folk, like a hybrid of Iron & Wine and the Boy Least Likely To,” Mitch allowed himself to employ effects and amplification on the new material. He wrote, performed and recorded nearly the whole album on his own at his NYC studio, with the exception of the title track and “Tell Me,” which feature Billy Squier on vocals and guitar. A week after a fortuitous backstage meeting let Mitch hand his childhood rock’n’roll hero (“The Stroke,” “Everybody Wants You,” etc.) a copy of sunshyness, he and Squier began collaborating. Mitch wrote the track “Tell Me” specifically with Billy’s vocal style in mind.
In addition to the new record, Mitch has undertaken the ambitious, creative, and critically praised The Trouble With Flying web project found at www.orbasquara.com. The unique website (featuring design by Random Collective) presents the album as a road trip, with footage captured from the 10-day bus tour that Mitch, bandmate Zé Luis and friends took from NYC to Portland in early 2009. The adventure found its inspiration from the album’s literal theme of exploring what is often missed when flying, with beautiful photographs of local color, changing landscapes, performances in the streets, ribs and biscuits, and the long terrain between the coasts. Also on display are lyrics and journal entries while the songs from Flying provide the soundtrack to the 430-foot side-scrolling Flash document.
Orba Squara had incredible success with licensing the songs from the debut sunshyness. Along with Apple’s selection of “Perfect Timing (This Morning)” as the theme for its worldwide TV iPhone® campaign, Frito Lay, Expedia, Saturn, Goodyear, and Sun Chips also used songs from the record. Orba Squara’s tongue-in-cheek cover of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” is also available on iTunes now.

Jer Coons’ Debut Release Speak Out Now First National Tour

November 23rd, 2009

jer-coons-speak-cover

Jer Coons performed his full-length debut Speak, released September 29, at a sold out record release show at Higher Ground in his hometown of Burlington, VT on September 25. He will support the release with his first national tour beginning in October. This summer Jer supported Colin Hay of Men at Work on a run of east coast dates.
Two decades into life, Jer’s dedication to his songwriting is about to payoff.  The young Vermonter will release his debut CD Speak on September 29. From the graceful power chords of the title track that open the album to the closing, endearing ballad “The Only Trace,” listener’s can hear Jer’s persona within each song. There are no “album tracks” as they all stand alone as well-executed pop songs, crafted with maturity and an ear for melodies.  His backing band of musicians – all Vermonters as well - keep the songs instantly engaging. And they are great players that can play the tracks as well live as they did on the album.
Though Speak isn’t out until fall, the world got a little taste of Jer Coons this June. His first slick and impossibly catchy single “Legs,” was featured on the Hollister June in-store play list.  While other artists have songs that find their way into a store, most don’t get the same reaction.  As the song played through out the day in over 6,000 stores (over 400,000 plays), his MySpace plays skyrocketed to over 4,500 per day with “Legs” alone getting 3,000+. With over 250,000 plays, all this attention has resulted in Jer being the 3rd most popular artist on MySpace from the Green Mountain State of after Phish and Grace Potter. At the same time he sold over 4,000 singles across the month of June on iTunes.  All this is without any other promotion. Hollister is bringing Speak in to be sold at the stores.
“I’ve been waiting my whole life to make this album,” Jer says with a grin.  It truly shows.  As his debut release, Speak really seems twenty years in the making.  The melodies, the lyrics, the production and most of all, Jer’s personality sync together perfectly to create a unique brand of Vermont pop.
To catch a glimpse into Jer’s world, check out the music video for “Legs”, filmed in various Vermont locales in hi def: http://www.youtube.com/jercoons

Brett Dennen’s Brazilian Infused EP With Forro In The Dark On ITunes

November 23rd, 2009

Singer/Songwriter Brett Dennen and Brazilian band, Forro in the Dark recently collaborated to record a must-have iTunes Live Session that is available now. Dennen’s uptempo, optimistic offerings have earned comparisons to Bob Marley and Paul Simon, while Forró in the Dark is a New York-based collective of Brazilian ex-pats. Best known for their collaborations with David Byrne, The Brazilian Girls and Thom Yorke, Forro in the Dark take the rural dance music of Brazil and update it with a New York vibe.
The EP includes reworked songs from Brett’s current album, Hope For The Hopeless, including hit single, “Make You Crazy,” a brand new song, “Joan of Arc,” and fan favorite (and New York City’s cab staple) “Blessed.” Fans lucky enough to have seen Brett Dennen and Jason Mraz perform together in October will recognize their notable duet “Long Road to Forgiveness.”
This fall, Brett plans a vibe-happy cross-country tour with Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. As Brett told Billboard Magazine, “I’m really excited about this tour because I think it’s going to be a little more rocking than tours I’ve done in the past.” He added, “Grace really knows how to rock it.”
Also in November, Last Call with Carson Daly will dedicate an entire show to Brett’s music on November 23rd. The acoustic performance and interview was taped at the intimate Library Ale House in Santa Monica—one of Brett’s favorite haunts. Fans were invited via a last minute Twitter about the taping, turning the evening into an impromptu concert similar to the coffee house shows Brett was playing just six years ago before his grassroots explosion.
Most recently, Dennen released his current single, “Heaven,” featuring Natalie Merchant and spent the summer touring some of the biggest festivals like Bonnaroo, Rothbury, Bumbershoot, Austin City Limits, etc, while also playing dates with O.A.R. and Jason Mraz.
Brett Dennen with Grace Potter tickets are on sale now.

ABOUT BRETT: The 6′4″ former camp counselor, organic gardener, backpacker from Northern California seems an unlikely front man, yet he nonetheless radiates ease in his own skin. His wit and sentiment amount to a captivating performance, and as the audience grows, Brett remains the folky, soulful, and insightful artist that first captured hearts in California coffee houses five years ago.
Dennen’s most recent album, Hope For The Hopeless (Dualtone/Downtown Records) debuted in October 2008 as the #4 Independent Album, the #6 Digital Album and at #41 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. The first single, “Make You Crazy” features Femi Kuti, became a Top Five hit at AAA Radio and was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek music video featuring Mandy Moore in an ironic take on “trends” as seen on VH1.
Rolling Stone named Dennen an “Artist to Watch in 2008,” and upon the release of Hope For The Hopeless, Dennen performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America Weekend, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, CBS Saturday Early Show, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Last Call with Carson Daly. His music has been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs and House among others.
