Scottish rock group Travis has called its sixth studio album the “loudest and edgiest yet” and the “rockiest since their debut”. The CD, “Ode To J. Smith”, contains their latest rock radio anthem, “Song To Self”. The band recently gave fans the chance to be in the new video for the song. Fans were asked to submit videos of themselves singing, miming or performing along to the track, and the band is currently compiling the entries into one music video. Rock group The Fratellis has a new single on the scene, namely “A Heady Tale”. Fans who pre-ordered the track were also treated to an exclusive Christmas card from the band. In other brotherly news, Barry, Mince and Jon recently won big at the Tartan Clef Awards in Glasgow. It’s not quite the Grammys, but the ceremony is a respected one in the band’s native Scotland and raises money for the Nordoff-Robbins charity, which is the largest charitable provider of music therapy in the UK. If you want to help the cause, www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk has all the details.

Are they going to walk out of here and be straight on their phone?’” Watch for Lily Allen’s second album, “It’s Not Me, It’s You”, to hit stores in early February 2009.

soft-cell-001
A full 29 years after first coming together in Leeds, UK, Soft Cell has never really gone away. Although often banished to the “one hit wonder” pile of ’80s electro-pop due to their breakthrough hit “Tainted Love”, the band (Marc Almond and David Ball) is enjoying some fresh attention, thanks to the re-release of their “Monoculture” single. The website www.davidball.com, by the way, links to a South Carolina, USA country singer of the same name. For your ’80s fix and more, visit his partner’s site at www.marcalmond.co.uk or the group’s myspace page.

Talk about an all-star lineup… Ludacris has teamed up with fellow rap heavyweights Nas and Jay-Z for the new single “I Do It For Hip-Hop” off his freshly-released “Theater Of The Mind” album. Says Luda: “I wanted an album where you could listen to it from beginning to end and it would put you in an imaginative state.” The CD is the sixth major label album from the self-proclaimed “MVP of rap”. He adds: “When you put everything together in rap as far as lyrics, visuals, record sales, personality, conceptual songs, I feel like I’m the summation of all. I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do.” Take one listen to the album, or watch any of Ludacris’ TV or film appearances, and you’ll probably have to agree.

December 26th, 2008

miley-cyrus-002
Teen star Miley Cyrus may have only been born in the ’90s, but she is taking on the ’80s in style, thanks to her cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. The track is also the latest single to be taken from Cyrus’ “Breakout” album. The sweet 16-year-old pop sweetheart was one of America’s hottest commodities in 2008. In fact, she beat out most pop culture icons by being one of the most traded names on eBay. According to the website, 223,139 “Hannah Montana” or Miley Cyrus items were exchanged during the year. Take that Madonna, (she was only traded 96,511 times).
